I'm setting up a home network and some of the rooms in my house are getting -70 dBm or worse. I'm wanting to fix that coverage, but I'm hesitant to use a standard mesh setup. (I am / would be using Ubiquiti Unifi AP AC Pros.) I'm curious about a few things:
- If the signal in those rooms is so poor, wouldn't that impact the performance of those APs?
- If I can get a network cable from my switch those those rooms, would it be better to set this up as a regular wireless LAN where all APs are their own but they have the same SSID? I'm afraid that in mesh the APs do some of the work to pass a device from one AP to the other, while in a wireless LAN setup, wouldn't they just pick the strongest signal on connection and then keep that unless it's truly abysmal?
So despite the surprisingly overwhelming push to a wired...
