Mesh vs Wireless LAN
No, they won't just pick up the strongest signal... nothing ever works that easy and correctly. Devices tend to marry themselves back to the same/last connection if possible.

If I had a choice it would of course be hard wired, that was kind of a duh statement.

With Unifi devices you can setup a minimal signal strength before it kicks clients off. In practice I haven't had to enable that hard cut-off yet. It so turns out that modern smartp homes such as...

If the signal in those rooms is so poor, wouldn't that impact the performance of those APs? If he means before doing anything, yes, a client in a room with very poor reception will drag everyone else...

Did you already purchase the APs at this point? If not, I would recommend maybe Meraki Go for home (similar Meraki hardware for lower end enterprise models but, low cost and NO licensing), you can set...

At certain user/TCP stream densities, of course a wire is better. However- if you're under that threshold, it's like anything else really. Is a 10G switch better than a 1G? Yes. Do you need it for...

Have Ubiquiti Amplifi for home, it's adequate for most jobs - can handle multiple devices with ease.Easy to setup but the lack of features in the router means I have it sitting behind a 'proper' router...

I would also look at other hardware instead of Ubiquiti. Their performance and coverage has always been underwhelming (even the LR AP has a shorter range than most other AP's I have used). I personally...

I forgot to mention: a wireless network of access points only does form a mesh network. The signal strength of one link versus another, from one dipole antenna to another between access points can be...

Never mesh if you can avoid it. Mesh halves your bandwidth and doubles your latency - at least. Especially with pro-sumer gear like ubiquiti. If you *have* to mesh (and you don't), remember that you...
